Monkey Safari – Hommage (GE)
Riding in with the power to deliver sunshine to world’s rainiest open air events, Monkey Safari brings rays of light to whatever dance floors they cast their shimmering spell on.
2015 saw the brothers swinging to new trees, retiring their previous labels to focus on their new label ‘Hommage.’ It has been the year of transformation for the German producers, developing and tailoring a sound suited perfectly for the unique club nuances while still keeping the core elements of melodic chords and grooves synonymous with the duos productions. 2015 unveiled Monkey Safari’s remix for Marc Houle’s “Pepper” on Richie Hawtin’s label Minus and their hugely successful “Cranes” and “Walls“ EPs that presented opportunities for Monkey Safari to work with some exciting musicians, such as Wolf + Lamb and Kölsch, techno heavy weights Guy Gerber and Josh Wink, as well as one of dance music’s most iconic producers, Moby.
2016 has followed in a similar fashion with a series of remixes and new material pencilled in over the course of this year. Their first EP of 2016, “On”, features remixes from Techno legend Paco Osuna alongside French producer Chloé. Some of electronic music’s top names are set to receive the Safari makeover with the developed and matured sound apparent in the brothers’ latest movements. Monkey Safari’s remix for Moby & The Void Pacific Choir is the pick of the bunch, returning the favor after Moby’s successful rework of the duo’s track “Walls” last year.
The duo’s efforts in the studio have transcended to their DJ sets with stand out shows at Time Warp USA & Germany culminating a very successful year. With a heavy touring schedule ahead, the brothers will have the opportunity to test their evolving sound once again to new crowds with a slot at Awakenings Festival as the stand out attraction. Monkey Safari has exciting plans lined up including a new event series that will see some of the scene’s top emerging talents play alongside the brothers in the world’s best clubs. This series of new events will see the duo rekindle their love for party promotion since their tender years in their hometown of Halle, Germany, where they own the infamous and recently remodeled “Charles Bronson” club.
The German outfit has been on an incredible run of form with promising developments in all of their endeavors and exciting news still to come. Be it a fresh remix or EP drop, DJ set or party, Monkey Safari will be sure to touch all scopes of dance culture this 2016 with no signs of deceleration on the horizon.
Their mandate remains the same, sending sunny vibes to make even the darkest dance floors smile.
John Acquaviva – PLUS8 (CA)
John Acquaviva as a DJ/Producer and Entrepreneur has flourished in the heart of electronic music. His multi talented persona is Superman like; the quintessential businessman by day – running Plus8 Equity Partners and an iconic musician by night. John Acquaviva is the eye of the storm on an incredible hurricane. The techno icon’s strategic positioning along the electronic music spectrum as an inspired soul, rather than a hit maker, has made for one of the most exciting producers the community has ever experienced.
John Acquaviva was born in Orsara di Puglia, Italy and immigrated with his family to London, Ontario when he was just four years old. Fifteen years later, he was crowned #1 DJ by the best club in town – NOTORIETIES. A champion at song selection and beat matching, his innate talents assisted the then-burgeoning Acquaviva in cementing himself as a primary face of London and Southern Ontario’s music scene. Having him transcend from a “DJ’s DJ” to a techno stalwart in his own right. Acquaviva’s penchant for electronic music production has rewarded him a nearly four-decade-long career of excellence. This truth by his constant demand endorsed by the numerous clubs, festivals and promoters from Ibiza to Argentina that clamor for his performances.
John Acquaviva is a man who knows what he wants and has become a master attaining it. He is a musical polestar, a global iconoclast to those who admire his drive and a dedicated top-tier headline entertainer to his fans. On a technological level no DJ has made such significant contributions to the advancement of how DJ’s perform than John Acquaviva. His personal masterful technique and firm grasp of the trade led to his fruitful involvement with Final Scratch and especially Beatport. A vital founder and active member of both companies – the former tool that allows manipulation and playback of digital audio sources and the latter a major online hub for electronic music – John’s role extends far beyond his taste making capabilities. He is a pioneer of electronic music’s technological evolution and helped sculpt the genre’s game-changing transition from analogue to digital and from vinyl to turntables and laptops. In sharing this vision with Richie Hawtin, they spearheaded a project that would act as the iTunes of dance, the duo arguably paved the path for a new and zestful era.
When Acquaviva and Hawtin became friends in 1989, the pair immediately co-founded Plus 8 Records in 1990, which capitalized on minimal releases from Cybersonik, Speedy J, Kenny Larkin and Plastikman, to name a few. It wasn’t until 1993, however, that he and Richie began to truly embrace their passions for house music by dishing up a second imprint – Definitive Records. Defined by a more progressive and tech house sound from such luminaries as Olivier Giacomotto, the imprint marked the beginning of John’s unparalleled taste as a global powerhouse and exemplar in dance music culture.
Bringing us to the present in 2015, Acquaviva proudly upholds the titles of zealous vinyl collector, insatiable entrepreneur, executive film producer and label owner. Yet above all, John Acquaviva is the quintessential performer at heart. His DJ career surging forward playing stellar sets at BPM Festival, Space Ibiza, Output in Brooklyn, Bellevue in Zurich and Crobar in Buenos Aires to highlight some of the past 12 months. He has penned electronic music’s prosperous novel, trailblazing the feast we comfortably sit at in the new millennium. With the imminent arrival of three forthcoming EPs, there’s no telling what evolution John will pull from his sleeve next.

NITIN – No.19 Music (CA)
Kiki – BPitch Control (GE)
Good voodoo. It´s not only Kiki´s most well known track with the beautiful vocals of Chela Simone and the name of his radio show on Ibiza Sonica and Proton Radio, but it symptomizes perfectly that moment, when you loose yourself on the dance floor and see him smiling, while he plays music you didn´t know you want to hear.
Joakim Ijäs was born in Helsinki, but has now found his home in Berlin. Initial forays into making sounds with violins and pianos soon gave hway to the mechanical beats of hip-hop, mixed together with more popular sounds whilst playing at school discos before he was even a teenager. With such an early start it was no surprise that before he was old enough to enter a club, Kiki was holding down a weekly residency at Helsinki’s Tempo club, which was swiftly followed by another at the Smile club. A move to Berlin in 1994 to study Architecture was the catalyst for Kiki to step in to the realms of a serious DJ. Impressing the legendary Masters At Work at a Marlboro DJ competition led to him securing gigs at Berlin’s three cathedrals of techno -Tresor, Pfefferbank and WMF. Gigs in Berlin and Germany were soon followed by a string of international bookings and the release of an infamous three deck mix for Sonnenhaus which led to DE:BUG worrying about the health of his, fingers.
With his profile as a DJ growing it was two short steps to releasing his first record on Ellen Allien’s BPitch Control label in 2001, who through a happy coincidence he had met when the pair were double booked to play the same DJ slot. Since then Kiki has become an integral part of the BPitch family growing into a truly international artist, sharing his love of energetic and hypnotic music across the globe from Mexico, to Tokyo and making a little bit of history along the way. With an output that has been nothing short of prolific, Kiki has released a number of genre defining records both as himself and later with partners in crime Silversurfer, Sasse, Chaim, Joyce Muniz and many more. Kiki was the first artist asked to put together a mix for the now legendary Boogy Bytes series, and has been asked to provide remixes and productions for labels as diverse as Bugged Out, Playhouse and Crosstown Rebels where he had the honour of being the first artist releasing on the label. His debut album Run With Me, released on Bpitch Control, was an international success, and led to the video for “Shake Off” (a collaboration with Silversurfer and Captain Comatose) being playlisted by MTV. More recently a collaboration with Sasse and his Moodmusic imprint led to the release of the excellent Grand Cru – a modern club classic already.
However, as he has grown and matured, a yearning to explore deeper and more personal forms of expression in music, has led to Kiki working on his follow up to his debut album: Kaiku, that spawned the single “Good Voodoo”.
After “Kaiku” and especially the huge success of the album single “Good Voodoo”, Kiki has put out “Cinema Obscura” & “Morning Maniacs” (with a ridiculosuly funny video) on Bpitch, started a radioshow on Proton Radio in 2010 in collaboration with Noice!, that evolved into his own show Good Voodoo on Ibiza Sonica and Proton in 2013. He is producing singles for Anja Schneider and Ellen Allien and keeps touring all 5 continents. 2014 also saw the highly succesful collaboration with Joyce Muniz, “Warriors” hit MTV and Viva with a video…
